Clinical Psychologist Biosketch  Jim Read is a clinical psychologist in private practice in Boise. He has a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Montana, and did his undergraduate work at Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana. He grew up in Geneva, Switzerland, where his father worked for almost 10 years with the United Nations. Before moving to Boise in 1981 he practiced for 5 years in a large medical clinic in Missoula, Montana (The Western Montana Clinic). Prior to opening his private practice in 1986 he served for almost six years as Director of the Health Promotion Institute at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center. During his tenure at Saint Al's he was responsible for planning and implementing programs offered by the Health Promotion Institute. His Total Fitness Program was well received in the Boise area, and over the years many participants went through this comprehensive "wellness" program. The Employee Assistance Program which he designed and sold to several local employers was also well received and is still in operation 17 plus years later. Dr. Read has been a frequent speaker on health related topics and has conducted many workshops and seminars. He wrote a weekly column in The Idaho Statesman from 1982 until 1994 and for almost two years was seen weekly on KIVI Television where he produced and hosted "Healthtalk" during the Monday night news broadcast. He was also heard throughout the Treasure Valley on KIDO radio two mornings a week for just over a year. He has been an dedicated (some would say compulsive!) exercise enthusiast for over 30 years, and this has helped shape his "mostly healthy" lifestyle and interest in health promotion. He is enthusiastically married 33 years to the same wonderful six foot tall woman he met in college in 1966 and they have two very wellness oriented children (24 and 28 years old) who, for some odd reason, thought brown rice (and steamed vegetables) four or five nights a week was a bit much. But now that they are both college graduates and on their own they are spared this gastronomic "torture!"
