Education 1974 Ph.D. University of Montana 1972 M.A. University of Montana 1967 B.A. Earlham College Present Position This is my seventeenth consecutive year as a clinical psychologist in private practice. I provide individual and couple counseling and consultation for a wide variety of problems. I conduct a great many psychological evaluations, mental status and diagnostic examinations, and do psychological testing. Major Experience Psychological evaluations and mental status exams for disability. Behavioral medicine (hospital based and outpatient in a multispecialty medical clinic). Cognitive and behaviorally oriented brief psychotherapy and counseling. For almost 12 years (1982-1994) I wrote a weekly newspaper column, and have been consulted from time to time by the news media in connection with psychological topics and stories. Media and Writing 1982-1994 I wrote a weekly column on "Psychology" in The Idaho Statesman newspaper. Copies of these are available for review. 1986 May 1986 - February 1988. Wrote and hosted a weekly television segment called "Healthtalk" on local station KIVI's Monday night news broadcast. Videotape is available for review. 1987 February, 1987 - February 1988. Served as "Resident Health Psychologist" two mornings a week on a local (KIDO) radio program ("AM Idaho") discussing health related stories (which I wrote) of interest to the general public. Memberships American Psychological Association (APA) Employment History January, 1981 to October, 1986 Director, Health Promotion Institute, Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center: Boise, Idaho. This position involved a combination of administrative, supervisory, teaching, marketing, training, and clinical responsibilities. The Health Promotion Institute of Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center provided a variety of "wellness" and health promotion services to local business and industry, employees of Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, and the general public. Classes and workshops were conducted on a number of subjects and healthy lifestyles were promoted. I gave frequent lectures to local, Idaho state and national groups on subjects relating to health and health promotion. A major component of Health Promotion Institute activities was the Employee Assistance Program which I designed and successfully sold to several local employers. I achieved a highly visible position in the local community due to many speaking engagements, my newspaper column and weekly television segment on health. July, 1975 to December, 1980 Clinical Psychologist, the Western Montana Clinic: Missoula, Montana. This position was with a medical group and involved all facets of clinical work with referrals from a group of 40 physicians. Work included individual and group psychotherapy (both inpatient and outpatient), psychological evaluation and consultation, behavioral medicine, and close collaboration with medical colleagues.
